Job Title: Lab Technologist at Vancouver Coastal Health
Overview:
Join the team at Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) as a Lab Technologist. We are seeking a dedicated professional to contribute to our Clinical Laboratory team.
- Conduct a range of routine and advanced tests using both manual techniques and automated systems within a specified laboratory environment.
- Manage responsibilities including patient interaction, specimen collection and reception, test result validation and reporting, instrument maintenance, and preparation of solutions and control agents following established protocols and safety regulations.
- Engage in departmental training initiatives in areas such as chemistry and hematology, aimed at acquiring knowledge of new and existing tests and procedures applicable in the laboratory setting.
Location: Bella Coola, BC
Bella Coola General Hospital offers a comprehensive array of services, including acute care, long-term care, emergency services, laboratory and diagnostic imaging, Telehealth, Mental Health, Public Health, Home & Community Support Services, a medical clinic, and pharmacy services.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience
- Certification from the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science along with basic care training.
Knowledge & Skills
- Fundamental understanding of laboratory procedures and techniques, including quality assurance.
- Basic awareness of other healthcare disciplines and their contributions to patient care utilizing point-of-care instruments.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
- Capacity to perform under pressure in a dynamic environment.
- Ability to prioritize workload effectively in collaboration with colleagues.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated capability to work independently as well as in a team setting.
- Physical capability to fulfill the responsibilities of the role.
- Proficiency in operating relevant equipment and applying techniques suitable for designated laboratory areas.
