Job Title: Part-Time Professor of Analytical Chemistry

Durham College is seeking a highly motivated and experienced professional to join our team as a part-time professor of analytical chemistry. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching lab sections for CHEM4131 – Analytical Chemistry II.

About the Role:

This is a continuation of Analytical Chemistry I, where various volumetric methods are studied, including acid/base, redox, and complexation. The course also serves as an introduction to instrumental analysis, addressing both electrochemical and spectroscopic methods from an analytical perspective. Problem-solving is strongly emphasized, and the laboratory portion of the course emphasizes good laboratory technique and practices.

Responsibilities:
  1. Creating a positive learning environment that accommodates students' diverse cultural and educational backgrounds, experiences, and individual learning styles;
  2. Utilizing principles of adult education to actively engage students in the learning process;
  3. Effectively using educational technologies to support learning, manage and post grades, and deliver hybrid and on-line courses;
  4. Developing curriculum that uses appropriate strategies and tools to assess student learning;
  5. Ensuring that course and program curriculum is current and relevant;
  6. Working independently and demonstrating initiative; and
  7. Working effectively with students, the program team, and a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
Requirements:
  1. A relevant degree combined with industry credentials (Master's is an asset).
  2. A minimum of five years of recent (within the past three years) and relevant work experience.
  3. Teaching experience at the post-secondary level with a demonstrated understanding and application of Universal Design for Learning and current assessment methodologies.
  4. Experience participating in industry-led or community-based applied research is an asset.
  5. Demonstrated use of current technologies to support student learning and the management of grades.
  6. Proven track-record of life-long learning.
  7. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a variety of internal and external stakeholders including students, faculty, support staff, administrators and community stakeholders.
  8. Understanding of the Ontario college system.
