Job Description

Job Title: Part-Time Professor of Organic Chemistry

Job Summary: Durham College is seeking a highly qualified and experienced professional to teach Organic Chemistry Labs as a part-time professor. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating a positive learning environment, utilizing principles of adult education, and effectively using educational technologies to support learning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Teaching and Curriculum Development: Develop and deliver high-quality course materials, including lectures, labs, and assessments, that align with the college's curriculum standards.
  • Student Engagement and Support: Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment that accommodates students' diverse cultural and educational backgrounds, experiences, and individual learning styles.
  • Assessment and Evaluation: Develop and implement effective assessment strategies to measure student learning outcomes and provide constructive feedback.
  • Professional Development: Stay current with industry developments, best practices, and technological advancements in organic chemistry and education.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Work effectively with students, faculty, staff, and external stakeholders to achieve academic and administrative goals.

Requirements:

  • Education: A relevant degree combined with industry credentials (Master's is an asset).
  • Experience: A minimum of five years of recent (within the past three years) and relevant work experience in organic chemistry or a related field.
  • Teaching Experience: Teaching experience at the post-secondary level with a demonstrated understanding and application of Universal Design for Learning and current assessment methodologies.
  • Skills and Qualifications: Experience participating in industry-led or community-based applied research, demonstrated use of current technologies to support student learning, and a proven track-record of life-long learning.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Industry Credentials: Industry certifications or accreditations in organic chemistry or a related field.
  • Research Experience: Experience participating in industry-led or community-based applied research projects.
  • Technology Skills: Proficiency in using educational technologies to support student learning and the management of grades.
