Role Summary

The Personal Care Assistant (PCA) reports directly to the Assisted Living Clinical Manager and/or their delegate, delivering comprehensive and quality care to those we serve. The PCA is a vital member of our team, adhering to established policies and procedures while ensuring that residents' rights are upheld and they are treated with the utmost respect.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Implementing established personal service plans.
  • Providing personal care to residents upon admission or transfer, including assistance with medication, bathing, grooming, dressing, meal support, oral hygiene, and other relevant care tasks.
  • Responding promptly to call bell alerts.
  • Monitoring and documenting residents' progress, symptoms, and behavioral changes, including any unscheduled care requests, and reporting significant findings.
  • Engaging residents in organizing and maintaining their living spaces according to their preferences and needs.
  • Encouraging and facilitating residents' participation in social, physical, spiritual, and recreational activities.
  • Keeping abreast of community policies and procedures, especially those related to emergency protocols and safe work practices.
  • Actively participating in community and educational programs.
  • Performing housekeeping duties during night shifts as per established routines.
  • Collaborating positively with all team members and supervisors.
  • Carrying out other related duties as necessary.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Completion of a recognized Care Aide Program.
  • Active registration with the British Columbia Care Aide & Community Health Worker Registry.
  • Valid First Aid Level 1 certification and current CPR certification.
  • Certification in Medication Administration is required.
  • Previous experience in a care community is preferred.
  • Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English, with the ability to understand verbal and written instructions.
  • Successful applicants must pass a vulnerable sector Criminal Record Check in accordance with provincial guidelines.
  • Must be in good health and physically capable of performing repetitive tasks, including lifting, squatting, bending, standing, and walking as required for the role.
