Role Responsibilities
The Home Support Worker (HSW) is accountable to the Assisted Living Clinical Manager and/or designated supervisor, delivering comprehensive and quality care to those we serve. The HSW plays a vital role within our team, adhering to established protocols while upholding the rights of residents and ensuring they receive care with respect and dignity.
Key Duties Include:
- Implementing personalized service plans as directed.
- Assisting residents with personal care needs upon admission or transfer, including medication support, bathing, grooming, dressing, meal assistance, oral hygiene, and other relevant care tasks.
- Responding promptly to call bell alerts.
- Monitoring and documenting residents' progress, symptoms, and behavioral changes, including addressing unscheduled care requests and reporting significant findings.
- Engaging residents in organizing and maintaining their living spaces, ensuring alignment with their preferences and requirements.
- Encouraging and facilitating residents' participation in social, physical, spiritual, and recreational activities.
- Keeping abreast of community policies and procedures, especially regarding emergency protocols and safe work practices.
- Participating in community and educational initiatives.
- Performing housekeeping duties during night shifts as per established routines.
- Collaborating positively with all team members and supervisors.
- Undertaking additional related responsibilities as needed.
Required Qualifications and Skills:
- Completion of a recognized Care Aide Program.
- Active registration with the British Columbia Care Aide & Community Health Worker Registry.
- Valid First Aid Level 1 certification and current CPR credentials.
- Certification in Medication Administration is necessary.
- Previous experience in a care environment is preferred.
- Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English, with the ability to comprehend verbal and written instructions.
- Successful candidates must pass a vulnerable sector Criminal Record Check in accordance with provincial regulations.
- Must maintain good health and be physically capable of performing repetitive tasks, including lifting, squatting, bending, standing, and walking as required for the role.
