Position Overview

The Home Support Worker (HSW) is a vital role within our community, dedicated to providing comprehensive and compassionate care to our residents. This position is governed by the Single Site Order, and the wage is currently being adjusted and supplemented by the government in accordance with this initiative.

Key Responsibilities

The HSW will report to the Assisted Living Clinical Manager and is responsible for delivering holistic care tailored to the individual needs of residents. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Implementing established personal service plans.
  • Assisting residents with personal care tasks such as medication management, bathing, grooming, dressing, meal assistance, and oral hygiene.
  • Responding promptly to call bell alerts.
  • Monitoring residents' progress and reporting any significant changes in their condition.
  • Engaging residents in maintaining their living spaces according to their preferences.
  • Encouraging participation in social, physical, spiritual, and recreational activities.
  • Staying informed about community policies, especially regarding emergency protocols and safe work practices.
  • Participating in community education and training programs.
  • Performing housekeeping duties during night shifts as per routine.
  • Collaborating effectively with team members and supervisors.
  • Carrying out additional related tasks as necessary.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Completion of a recognized Care Aide Program.
  • Active registration with the British Columbia Care Aide & Community Health Worker Registry.
  • Valid First Aid Level 1 certification and current CPR certification.
  • Medication Administration Certification is required.
  • Previous experience in a care environment is preferred.
  • Proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English, with the ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Successful candidates must pass a vulnerable sector Criminal Record Check in accordance with provincial regulations.
  • Must be in good health and physically capable of performing tasks that require lifting, bending, standing, and walking.
