Job Summary

This position will work in partnership with the four W'SANEC Health Directors and their respective communities to develop comprehensive accountability measures, oversight, and support for the general practitioner. The successful candidate will be part of a larger on-reserve team comprised of Nurse Practitioners, Primary Care Nurses, Mental Health and Addictions Counsellors, and Indigenous Wellness Supports.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with W'SANEC Health Directors to develop and implement community-based health initiatives.
  • Provide primary care services to patients in the W'SANEC communities, including initiation, follow-up, and stabilization of Opioid Agonist Treatment (OAT) starts.
  • Work collaboratively with MHSU, other primary care providers, the Saanich Peninsula Emergency Department, and community services to monitor clients' clinical status and response to treatment.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated commitment to Indigenous cultural safety and anti-racist practice in healthcare.
  • Experience working with First Nations communities, including knowledge of Indigenous worldviews and Indigenous ways of understanding health and wellness.
  • Relational approach to healthcare provision and a strong desire to engage with and learn from Indigenous patients, families, and community members.

Location

The position will start at Tsawout First Nation and will transition to the WSANEC clinic when ready. The successful candidate will be expected to work in a hub and spoke model, providing services in the other three W'SANEC communities.
