Job Summary

This position will work in partnership with the four W'SANEC Health Directors and their respective communities. The health directors advocate for their communities and are developing a plan to implement comprehensive accountability measures, oversight, and support for the general practitioner.

The position will be part of a larger on-reserve team comprised of Nurse Practitioners, Primary Care Nurses, Mental Health and Addictions Counsellors, and Indigenous Wellness Supports. This team is part of a larger Saanich Peninsula Primary Care Network with additional resources, including a pharmacist, MH Clinicians, and Social Workers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with MHSU, other primary care providers, the Saanich Peninsula Emergency Department, and community services to monitor clients' clinical status and response to treatment.
  • Provide services in the other three W'SANEC communities using a hub and spoke model.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with First Nations communities, including demonstrated commitment to Indigenous cultural safety and anti-racist practice in healthcare.
  • Trauma-informed care and knowledge of Indigenous worldviews and Indigenous ways of understanding health and wellness.
  • A relational approach to healthcare provision and a strong desire to engage with and learn from Indigenous patients, families, and community members about their needs and how best to serve them.

Location

The position will start at Tsawout First Nation and will transition to the WSANEC clinic when ready. The community is located in the municipality of Central Saanich, Saanichton, and offers a relaxed and peaceful lifestyle.
