Position: Registered Nurse, Child Psychiatry

Location: BC Children's Hospital

The Registered Nurse within the Child Psychiatry unit at PHSA plays a crucial role in delivering therapeutic care to young patients facing behavioral, emotional, and psychiatric challenges. Key responsibilities encompass comprehensive patient evaluations, family education, and health promotion activities aligned with established healthcare standards.

Child Psychiatry Inpatient Unit Overview

  • A specialized 10-bed unit dedicated to providing inpatient psychiatric care for children under the age of 12.

Key Responsibilities

  • Document patient information, develop care plans, offer patient support, instruct on procedures, engage in staff training, serve as a clinical resource, assist in policy formulation, ensure a secure environment, advocate for nursing research, and fulfill additional related duties.

Qualifications and Skills

To be considered for this role, candidates should possess:

  • A degree from an accredited School of Nursing and current registration as an RN or RPN with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • A minimum of one year of recent clinical experience in child and/or youth mental health settings.

Essential Skills & Knowledge

  • Understanding of mental health diagnoses and treatments for children and youth, trauma-informed care practices, developmental theories, effective communication skills, CPR techniques, and safe patient care practices.
  • A commitment to Indigenous reconciliation and culturally safe practices.
