Position: Registered Nurse - Child Psychiatry

Location: BC Children's Hospital

The Registered Nurse within the Child Psychiatry unit at PHSA plays a vital role in delivering compassionate care to young patients facing emotional, behavioral, and psychiatric challenges. This position involves comprehensive patient evaluations, educational support for families, and health promotion initiatives in line with established protocols.

Unit Overview

  • A specialized 10-bed unit catering to inpatient psychiatric care for children under the age of 12.

Key Responsibilities

  • Document patient information, develop care plans, provide emotional and physical support, instruct on medical procedures, engage in staff training, serve as a clinical resource, contribute to policy formulation, maintain a safe care environment, advocate for nursing research, and fulfill other related responsibilities.

Qualifications and Skills

Essential Requirements:

  • Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing with current registration as an RN or RPN with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • A minimum of one year of recent clinical experience in child and/or youth mental health settings.

Competencies:

  • Understanding of mental health diagnoses and treatments for children and youth, trauma-informed care principles, child and youth developmental theories, effective communication skills, CPR proficiency, and safe patient care practices.
  • Dedication to Indigenous reconciliation efforts.
