Position Overview

The Finance Operations Manager is accountable to the Senior Finance Manager and oversees the daily management of all accounting, financial reporting, and customs operations. This role is pivotal in establishing and upholding accounting policies and procedures that align with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). The position demands the ability to manage tight deadlines and a variety of accounting and customs responsibilities, including month-end closures, annual reporting, treasury operations, and audit preparations.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Guarantee precise and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closures and reporting.
  2. Evaluate and present monthly/quarterly/yearly financial statements to stakeholders, including budget variances and key performance indicators.
  3. Review and authorize daily transactions such as accounts payable, inter-company transactions, journal entries, and customs-related issues.
  4. Facilitate the preparation and negotiation of annual and revised budgets with management.
  5. Develop and implement departmental goals and objectives while collaborating with other departments.
  6. Lead projects and system implementations to enhance operational efficiency, ensuring proper delegation and supervision of team members.
  7. Ensure compliance with accounting and customs regulations, reporting requirements, and stakeholder expectations.
  8. Oversee the timely filing of government reports, including Corporate Income Tax Returns, in collaboration with tax professionals.
  9. Possess comprehensive knowledge of Canadian taxation and ensure compliance with various tax obligations.
  10. Establish and enforce internal controls and checks to maintain organizational integrity.
  11. Coordinate external audits and ensure financial statements adhere to IFRS and GAAP standards.
  12. Manage banking and finance operations, including cash disbursements and foreign exchange transactions.
  13. Ensure timely collection and payment of accounts receivable/payable and resolve discrepancies.
  14. Respond to inquiries from directors and managers regarding financial performance and reporting.
  15. Develop and implement new policies and procedures to enhance workflow and resource utilization.
  16. Provide leadership and mentorship to the team, fostering professional development and a safety-oriented culture.

Qualifications

  1. Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance is required.
  2. A minimum of 8 years of progressive management experience in a similar role, preferably within the manufacturing or automotive sectors.
  3. Chartered Professional Accountant designation is preferred.
  4. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  5. Excellent written and verbal communication skills for effective interaction with internal and external stakeholders.
  6. Strong analytical skills for interpreting and reconciling financial data.
  7. Understanding of current accounting operations to support customer service.
  8. Customer service-oriented attitude in addressing and resolving issues.
  9. Advanced knowledge of accounting principles and basic tax regulations.
  10. Project management expertise.
  11. Familiarity with advanced financial systems (e.g., Oracle, JDE).
  12. Thorough understanding of the financial closing process.
  13. Knowledge of local and provincial compliance requirements.
  14. Proven people management and development skills.
  15. Aptitude for developing and maintaining goals and objectives.
