Position Overview

The Vice President of Merchandising Operations plays a pivotal role in guiding the SportChek business unit's Merchandising Planning, Allocation, and Business Support teams, which include Pricing, Capabilities & Training, Merch Data Analytics, Merch Data Governance, and Merch Transformation. Reporting directly to the Chief Merchant of SportChek, this individual will be a vital member of our merchandising leadership team, collaborating closely with leaders across the organization to influence growth strategies and operational plans for the SportChek and Atmosphere retail brands.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee sales, margin, and inventory planning, including inventory management and allocation, in-season forecasting, merchandise analytics, and pricing execution.
  • Collaborate with Merchants, Finance, Supply Chain, Store Operations, FP&A, and Marketing to achieve financial objectives while effectively managing resources.
  • Lead the strategic development of Merchandise Operations, implementing efficient, scalable, and resilient processes and tools across merchandising functions.
  • Manage Sales & Margin planning and forecasting, creating in-season, annual, and long-term outlooks by category and channel.
  • Direct inventory planning, replenishment, and allocation processes, identifying opportunities to enhance inventory productivity and service levels.
  • Influence business strategy and in-season management by transforming data into actionable insights, utilizing business and financial analysis to enhance performance and KPIs.
  • Drive continuous improvement in reporting solutions for merchandising and merchandise operations teams.
  • Manage overall planning KPIs, including inventory budgets, receipt timing, inventory turnover, in-stock metrics, aged inventory, POS sales, and margin, while collaborating with Finance on annual budgeting and forecasts.
  • Lead and develop a high-performing Merchandise Operations team, focusing on individual and team growth, career development, and coaching.
Qualifications
  • 10+ years of extensive experience in merchandising, retail planning, and inventory management, with at least 5 years in a leadership capacity.
  • Strategic mindset with strong business acumen; adept at assessing and mobilizing resources to achieve objectives.
  • Exceptional analytical skills with a comprehensive understanding of retail metrics and financial drivers.
  • Proven leadership and people management skills, with a track record of developing and motivating high-performing teams.
  • Ability to prepare and present recommendations to Senior Leaders, clearly articulating trade-offs.
  • Strong relationship-building and collaboration skills, with the capacity to influence stakeholders.
  • Effective problem-solving abilities.
  • Acts as a change agent, demonstrating a history of driving results and business transformation.
  • Comfortable navigating ambiguity.
