About the Opportunity
Reporting to the Health Services Manager, the Mental Health Occupational Therapist is a vital member of the Mental Health & Addictions Program and multi-disciplinary team. This role involves actively participating in the planning, development, provision, and evaluation of comprehensive mental health services.
The Mental Health Occupational Therapist is responsible for providing case management and direct mental health services to clients enrolled in the Beacon Program. Key responsibilities include conducting psychosocial assessments, functional assessments, and diagnostic impressions. The role also involves developing and implementing individualized treatment plans, monitoring clinical outcomes, making informed case management decisions, facilitating group sessions, and creating comprehensive discharge plans.
The Mental Health Occupational Therapist will connect clients with relevant agencies, services, and programs as needed. Accurate, concise, and current clinical documentation is essential, adhering to professional standards.
This position requires sound professional judgment and initiative while operating within the framework and objectives of the Mental Health & Addictions Program. The Occupational Therapist will integrate the Mission, Vision, and Strategic Directions of the organization into daily practice, upholding the Core Competencies and Values.
About YouWe encourage applications from individuals who possess the following qualifications:
- Graduation from an accredited University Program in Occupational Therapy
- Eligibility for membership in the Canadian Occupational Therapy Association
- Eligibility for registration to practice Occupational Therapy in Nova Scotia
- Minimum three years of Occupational Therapy experience working with clients in an Addiction & Mental Health setting
- Experience in developing collaborative partnerships and initiatives with other agencies and community stakeholders
- Experience working in a community-based setting
- Demonstrated knowledge of community-based population health approaches
- Ability to provide effective Addiction & Mental Health/Occupational Therapy assessments
- Commitment to pursuing continuing education to maintain or enhance professional knowledge
- Dedication to promoting a culture of respect that supports safety, ethical practices, cultural awareness, and organizational health
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to interact positively with patients/residents, families, other healthcare providers, and staff, demonstrating sensitivity, empathy, and warmth
- Ability to demonstrate sound judgment and initiative
- Physical and mental capabilities to perform the duties of the position, such as working flexible hours; dealing with stressful situations; working alone in a satellite office; and traveling/working at other areas as required
