Position Overview
Reporting to the Director of Process Systems Engineering, the Senior Process Systems Analyst is crucial in evaluating and modeling process data related to CE technology. Utilizing a variety of tools and methodologies, from basic mathematical and statistical functions to advanced AI/ML techniques, this role aims to lead and support multiple projects focused on process modeling and data analytics, ultimately enhancing core CE technologies and Oxy DAC operations. This position requires not only technical proficiency but also effective communication and collaboration with various technical and business teams. The successful candidate will be expected to work onsite a minimum of two days per week. Key Responsibilities

Data Acquisition and Preparation:

  • Identify and automate the collection of valuable data sources.
  • Perform preprocessing of both structured and unstructured data.

Exploratory Data Analysis (EDA) of Operational Data:

  • Analyze and interpret extensive operational and experimental data to uncover trends and insights.

Model Development and Enhancement:

  • Create predictive models and first-principles models using commercial process modeling software and/or machine learning algorithms.
  • Integrate models through ensemble modeling techniques.
  • Employ statistical and machine learning methods to analyze time-series data and derive actionable insights.
  • Develop customized data models, visualizations, and algorithms for data interpretation.
  • Optimize the performance of mathematical and ML models within production environments.
  • Collaborate closely with users to address issues and resolve challenges promptly.
  • Foster a culture of MLOps, enabling the team to deliver solutions with enhanced computational efficiency, scalability, and reliability.

Thought Leadership and Innovation:

  • Conduct research and experiments, collaborating with industry experts.
  • Work with subject matter experts and engineers to understand their requirements and assist them throughout the model development lifecycle.
  • Communicate with stakeholders and leadership to provide progress updates and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Offer thought leadership by staying informed about best practices.
Qualifications and Experience:
Education and Knowledge:
  • A post-graduate degree (PhD preferred) in Chemical Engineering or Process Systems Engineering, focusing on mathematical and computational modeling, simulation, process design and control, optimization, data analytics, and/or machine learning.

Required Skills:

  • A proven background of over 7 years in Process Systems Engineering, Data Analytics, System Identification, Machine Learning, and data-driven/first-principles modeling and simulation.
  • Proficiency in commercial process simulation software (Aspen Plus, Aspen HYSYS, AVEVA, OLI Systems).
  • Expertise in data curation techniques, including integration, cleansing, and feature engineering.
  • Knowledge of data-driven machine learning algorithms, such as regression, classification, time-series predictive models, dimensionality reduction, and data mining.
  • Proficient in Python and machine learning frameworks and libraries, including TensorFlow, scikit-learn, or PyTorch.
  • Experience with data visualization tools like Power BI, Matplotlib, Seaborn, Bokeh, and ParaView.
  • Familiarity with git version control.
  • Experience in end-to-end model deployment (MLOps), encompassing data collection, productization, integration, and ongoing maintenance or retraining.

Preferred Skills:

  • Understanding of Theory-informed Machine Learning, such as PINNs and Neural Operators.
  • Experience with Active Machine Learning (AML) implementation.
  • Ability to formulate SQL queries.
  • Familiarity with cloud-native architecture using containerized microservices (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
  • Knowledge of orchestration for scale-out, particularly Kubernetes.
  • Experience with big data technologies and platforms, including Hadoop, Spark, and NoSQL.
  • Familiarity with JAX.
  • Knowledge of Natural Language Processing, Reinforcement Learning, and Computer Vision.
  • Experience in API development with FastAPI.
  • Background in software development.
  • Understanding of distributed machine learning development.

Carbon Engineering provides a competitive compensation package, including extended health benefits. The base salary for this role ranges from $93,330 to $141,000, along with potential bonus compensation.
