Position Overview

The role of the Road Operations Area Manager is crucial in overseeing the functionality and safety of transportation networks. This position entails managing the delivery of various road rehabilitation and enhancement projects, ensuring a reliable infrastructure for the motoring public.

Key Responsibilities

The Area Manager will:

  • Serve as the primary representative for highway operations within the designated area.
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with Road and Bridge Maintenance Contractors.
  • Effectively communicate with stakeholders, including the public, elected officials, and regulatory bodies.
  • Plan, organize, and implement road improvement initiatives in alignment with ministry programs.
  • Respond promptly to road-related emergencies, ensuring public safety and environmental protection.
Qualifications

To be considered for this position, candidates must possess:

  1. A Professional Engineer designation with one year of relevant experience; OR
  2. A university or college degree in a related discipline with one year of relevant experience; OR
  3. A diploma from a recognized technical institution in a related field with three years of relevant experience; OR
  4. A secondary school diploma with a minimum of five years of relevant experience.

Relevant fields of study include civil engineering, structural engineering, construction technology, surveying, geology, geography, or project management.

Preferred Experience

Preference may be given to candidates with:

  • Experience in the transportation sector.
  • Proven ability to manage contracts and engage with stakeholders.
Working Conditions

The position requires:

  • Willingness to navigate steep terrains and hazardous locations.
  • Availability to respond to emergencies at any time.
  • Capability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
