Position Overview
What is the role?
This role is pivotal in transforming the management of ceded reinsurance operations for RBC Insurance. The incumbent will spearhead projects, initiatives, and training programs aimed at enhancing the center of excellence. Close collaboration with reinsurance administration analysts and key stakeholders is essential to pinpoint operational deficiencies, risks, and areas for improvement. The role involves working with cross-departmental teams to design, develop, test, and implement changes in processes and systems to optimize the management of the reinsurance portfolio.
Key Responsibilities
• Collaborate with the reinsurance administration team to analyze data from reinsurance systems, identifying operational gaps and risks. Lead initiatives with cross-functional teams to develop and implement process and system enhancements.
• Oversee the creation, documentation, and upkeep of operational guidelines and procedures for managing ceded reinsurance. Develop training programs to ensure the reinsurance administration team is well-equipped and knowledgeable.
• Partner with risk management, internal, and external audit teams to ensure robust processes and controls are in place, tested, documented, and reviewed regularly.
• Cultivate relationships with various departments (including underwriting, pricing, claims, finance, and legal) and external reinsurers to gain a comprehensive understanding of the reinsurance lifecycle and support external initiatives.
• Assist in the overall management of the ceded reinsurance portfolio, ensuring timely and accurate settlements of reinsurance payments and recoveries, managing accruals, reserve adjustments, and ensuring compliance with treaties.
Qualifications for Success
Essential:
• A minimum of 8 years of experience in Insurance and Reinsurance Administration, with extensive knowledge of the industry, reinsurance treaties, contracts, and related processes.
• Deep understanding of reinsurance data, processes, and controls, including administration, billing, claims, underwriting, valuation, and treaty compliance.
• Proven experience in process reengineering, mapping, and documentation, with familiarity in operational risk management.
• Demonstrated experience in leading projects and initiatives, with a solid grasp of Agile and Waterfall project management methodologies.
• Experience with insurance systems and data flow design, analysis, and implementation, along with knowledge of the software development lifecycle.
• Strong communication and leadership capabilities, able to convey ideas effectively across various management levels and stakeholders.
Preferred:
• A post-secondary degree in business, actuarial science, finance, mathematics, or a related field.
