About the Opportunity

The City of Red Deer is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated individual to join our team as a Municipal Enforcement Officer. As a key member of our public safety team, you will play a vital role in maintaining the quality of life for our citizens by enforcing municipal bylaws and provincial statutes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Enforce municipal bylaws and provincial statutes through proactive patrols and investigations.
  • Conduct education and awareness initiatives in public spaces to promote compliance with bylaws and regulations.
  • Service legal documents and attend court proceedings as required.
  • Assist police officers in the recovery of stolen and lost property.
  • Conduct proactive patrols of the City's park and transit systems.
Requirements
  • Grade 12 (or GED) diploma.
  • College diploma in Law Enforcement, Conservation Enforcement, Criminology, or graduation from a recognized police academy.
  • Two years of related bylaw or police enforcement experience.
  • Completion of Emergency First Aid, CPR, and WHMIS certification.
  • Ability to pass RCMP Clearance.
  • Must be able to qualify as a Community Peace Officer and complete special training in defensive tools.
  • Requires an understanding of GPS and GIS technology.
  • Must have a valid Alberta Class 5 driver's license.
  • Able to successfully complete defensive driving training.
  • Must be able to obtain Community Peace Officer – Level 1 Status.
  • Must successfully complete the P.A.R.E. physical testing within the prescribed time.
  • Ability to respond courteously and professionally in resolving conflict situations.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing in a clear and concise manner.
  • Understanding of public spaces and their contribution to quality of life.
  • Knowledge of municipal bylaws.
  • Ability to work independently or in a team situation.
  • Requires strong computer skills and familiarity with current office suite software.
  • Ability to deal with people in a firm but not aggressive manner and act with sound judgment under pressure.
Benefits
  • $42.88 to $45.14 per hour.
  • 75 hours biweekly. Shift work, hours will be irregular including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Additional Information

*Must meet minimum criteria required to obtain an appointment as Community Peace Officer Level 1 through Alberta Justice and Solicitor General Department.

**Must successfully pass a stringent RCMP Security Clearance before commencing employment.
