As a key member of the surgical team, the Surgical Care Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) operates under the supervision of the lead nurse or in partnership with the Registered Nurse in the operating room. The LPN is instrumental in assessing, planning, and executing perioperative care for patients within the surgical environment. This role emphasizes teamwork and collaboration with various healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

Position Overview:

In your capacity as a Licensed Practical Nurse, you will engage in a multidisciplinary healthcare approach, applying nursing processes alongside critical thinking and problem-solving abilities. Your practice will be informed by your educational background, experience, and adherence to organizational policies and procedures. You will contribute significantly to delivering safe, high-quality care that prioritizes the needs of patients and their families, aligning with the core values of Alberta Health Services.

Essential Qualifications:

- Completion of an accredited practical nursing program.
- Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA).
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Qualifications:

- Minimum of one year of experience in an operating room and surgical day care setting.
- Strong understanding of aseptic techniques and sterile processing.
- Basic knowledge of surgical anatomy and comprehensive understanding of surgical terminology.
- Technical proficiency in instrumentation during surgical procedures.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Certification from an Operating Room Technician Program.
