The Calgary Alternative Poss-Abilities (CAPA) initiative promotes a strengths-based, client-centered service model. Our mission is to empower adults through support and advocacy, facilitating access to resources, community connections, and personal growth.

Role Summary

The Senior Community Support Specialist (CSW3) plays a crucial role in the services provided by Calgary Alternative Support Services Inc. (CASS). This position focuses on assisting clients with complex needs, fostering empowerment, encouraging positive decision-making, and integrating them into their communities while ensuring stability in their daily routines.

Key responsibilities include establishing professional boundaries, guiding clients in emotional support, daily living skills, and connecting them with community resources aligned with their Individual Support Plan (ISP). The CSW3 is also tasked with ensuring that program delivery adheres to high ethical standards and aligns with the Agency's Mission, Vision, and Mandate.

Core ResponsibilitiesClient Engagement
  • Develop respectful and professional relationships with clients;
  • Assist clients in setting and achieving goals outlined in their Individual Support Plan (ISP);
  • Support individuals in enhancing their independence within the community, focusing on daily living skills, community participation, and health management;
  • Maintain positive professional relationships with client guardians and support networks.
Organizational Duties
  • Comply with CASS Policies & Procedures and program-specific expectations;
  • Check email communications at the start of each shift;
  • Complete all necessary documentation promptly, including timesheets and incident reports;
  • Participate actively in the CASS Health & Safety program and adhere to relevant policies;
  • Maintain valid certifications in all core training and any additional training required.

Key RelationshipsClients: Individuals receiving support through CASS, ensuring their needs and safety are prioritized.

Guardians: Individuals appointed to protect vulnerable adults, offering various decision-making options.
Support Network: A group of personal and professional individuals engaged in supporting the client.Essential Skills and Knowledge
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality;
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills;
  • Positive approach to challenges;
  • Adaptability in communication styles;
  • Patience and understanding;
  • Preferred knowledge in supporting adults with developmental disabilities.
Educational Requirements
  • Post-secondary education in Human Services;
  • Current Emergency or Standard First Aid certification, including CPR/AED;
  • A satisfactory police information check with a vulnerable sectors search.
Additional Requirements
  • A vehicle and valid driver's license are necessary.
