Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Special Needs Educational Assistant to support students with diverse abilities and exceptionalities in our educational settings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide individualized support to students with complex needs, including autism, emotional and behavioral challenges, and physical health concerns.
  • Assist with planning, implementing, and reviewing individualized program plans to meet the unique needs of each student.
  • Modify classroom materials and adapt teaching strategies to ensure inclusive and accessible learning environments.
  • Facilitate positive interactions between students, staff, and the community, promoting social skills and emotional well-being.
  • Monitor student conduct and intervene when necessary, using de-escalation strategies to maintain a safe and respectful environment.
  • Supervise students during break periods, bus arrival and departure, and in community settings, ensuring their safety and well-being.

Requirements

  • Special Needs Educational Assistant Certificate or Child and Youth Care Diploma.
  • Two years of related experience, preferably in an educational environment.
  • Ability to work in complex environments with high-risk students, requiring constant supervision.
  • Proven ability to implement effective de-escalation strategies and maintain a calm demeanor in challenging situations.
  • Flexibility to undertake a variety of assignments and adapt to changing circumstances.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Proven success in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with teachers, parents, and students.
  • Ability to perform physical activities, including lifting, transferring, and providing personal care as necessary.

Work Arrangements

This is a casual, on-call position, with the possibility of temporary or permanent assignments. Hourly rate: $ - $ per hour.
