Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Needs Educational Assistant to support students with diverse abilities and exceptionalities in our educational settings.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide individualized support to students with complex needs, including autism, emotional and behavioral challenges, and physical health concerns.
- Assist with planning, implementing, and reviewing individualized program plans to meet the unique needs of each student.
- Modify classroom materials and adapt teaching strategies to accommodate students with diverse learning styles.
- Facilitate positive interactions between students, staff, and the community, promoting a safe and inclusive learning environment.
- Monitor student conduct and intervene when necessary to de-escalate challenging behaviors.
- Supervise students during break periods, bus arrival and departure, and in community settings.
Requirements
- Special Needs Educational Assistant Certificate or Child and Youth Care Diploma.
- Two years of related experience, preferably in an educational environment.
- Ability to work in complex environments with high-risk students, requiring constant supervision.
- Proven ability to implement effective de-escalation strategies.
- Flexibility to undertake various assignments and adapt to changing situations.
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Proven success in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with teachers, parents, and students.
- Ability to perform physical activities, including lifting, transferring, and providing personal care as necessary.
Work Arrangements
Casual: Hourly, on-call work up to 7 hours per day, Monday to Friday.
Temporary: Long-term part-time and full-time assignments in excess of 25 cumulative work days in the same assignment and location.
Permanent Positions: Eligibility to apply for permanent, advertised positions.
