Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Aquatic Safety Specialist to join our team at the City of St. Catharines. As a Lifeguard and Instructor, you will be responsible for ensuring the overall safety of participants, preventing accidents, and responding to emergency situations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform various administrative, lifeguarding, instructing, and guest services tasks as assigned.
  • Understand and follow all applicable facility, aquatic, and municipal policies and procedures to ensure a safe and healthy environment.
  • Model the rules of the facility with a positive attitude and establish a positive, respectful, and inclusive environment.
  • Participate in water demonstrations with enthusiasm and energy for all levels and programs.
  • Provide effective emergency response, execute proper rescue techniques, and render CPR/first aid as needed.
  • Ensure that all lifesaving equipment is checked, set out, and put away each day, reporting any deficiencies to the Head Guard.

Requirements:

  • National Lifeguard certification (valid for two years from the date of issue)
  • Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor certification (valid for two years from the date of issue)
  • Lifesaving Society Lifesaving Instructor certification (valid for two years from the date of issue)
  • Standard First Aid and CPR C certification (valid for three years from the date of issue)
  • HIGH FIVE The Principles of Healthy Childhood Development
  • Vulnerable Sector Police Clearance (valid for two years from the date of issue)
  • Must be at least 15 years of age
  • Experience working in aquatics
  • A professional and enthusiastic employee who embraces a service-minded approach
  • Must be willing to work a variety of shifts, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Proven completion of Ministry of Labour Worker Health and Safety Awareness training

Compensation and Benefits:

Lifeguard wage: $21.80; Instructor wage: $23.06

Expected work location: Various City pools

Hours of work: Up to 24 hours per week

Please note that this is a seasonal position from September to June.
