Purpose

This role is designed to develop, coordinate, and execute engagement and consultation initiatives with Indigenous communities, fostering positive relationships. The incumbent will prioritize collaboration and transparent communication, playing a crucial role in the implementation of agreements and negotiations that yield mutually beneficial outcomes with Indigenous groups. Acting as a vital resource within the Sustainability & External Relations Department, the incumbent will serve as a primary contact for Indigenous communities and staff regarding community relations and engagement, collaborating with other departments as needed. Maintaining a prominent presence at the Mine site and within the communities is essential, involving direct interaction with key leaders.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure adherence to the Musselwhite and Mishkeegogamang Agreements and commitments with First Nations partners.
  • Develop and report on plans and activities for Indigenous community engagement.
  • Create work plans and suggest budget allocations for engagement initiatives.
  • Participate in committee meetings as outlined in the Musselwhite Agreement and Mishkeegogamang.
  • Provide education on Mine training programs and expected conduct. Facilitate pre-employment readiness programs in the communities.
  • Guide community-based resource employees in assisting potential candidates with resume preparation, job applications, and interview readiness.
  • Establish a program to enhance community awareness of career opportunities and assist in setting career objectives and pathways.
  • Organize community career fairs and represent the company at industry-related career events to promote Indigenous employment.
  • Support the orientation, training, and other employment services tailored to the unique needs of Indigenous employees.
  • Act as a primary contact within the Sustainability & External Relations and HR Departments for Indigenous employees, aiding in the understanding and interpretation of company policies and programs.
  • Build relationships with Mine Supervisors to address employee relations issues and promote cultural understanding.
  • Identify and communicate employee needs, recommending adjustments to employment practices and workplace procedures.
  • Advance the Indigenous Employment and Workplace Strategy.
  • Collaborate with Supervisors to assist individuals in defining career goals, identifying training needs, and developing training plans. Monitor the effectiveness of training progress.
  • Provide information on resources available to employees at the Mine site and within their communities for skills development.
  • Contribute to the delivery of External Relations training, focusing on cultural awareness and professional work ethics.
Requirements
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience working with Indigenous communities.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in the implementation and negotiation of First Nations agreements.
  • Experience in a multicultural work environment.
  • Proven cultural and business awareness of Indigenous peoples, with the ability to collaborate effectively with community leaders to foster lasting relationships.
  • 5 or more years of experience with a Community government, tribal council, or Indigenous political organization is an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to execute effective community engagement strategies.
  • Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking Ojibwe/Ojicree.
  • Computer literacy, particularly in MS Office.
  • Strong presentation skills.
  • Effective negotiation skills.
Working Conditions

This position operates on a schedule of 4 days on, 3 days off.
