Job Title: Associate Dean, Indigenous Studies

Confederation College is seeking a highly qualified and experienced individual to fill the role of Associate Dean, Indigenous Studies. This position is a key part of the Academic Leadership Team and will provide leadership, strategic planning, and Indigenous-centered expertise to advance Indigenous postsecondary education and applied research at the College.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide leadership and strategic planning to advance Indigenous postsecondary education and applied research at the College.
  • Develop and implement Indigenous-centered curricula and programs that meet the needs of Indigenous communities in northwestern Ontario.
  • Work collaboratively with the Vice-President Indigenous Leadership, Partnerships and Strategies to develop and implement Indigenous-focused initiatives and projects.
  • Provide support and guidance to faculty and staff on Indigenous-related matters, including curriculum development, program evaluation, and human resource management.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with Indigenous organizations and associations, and identify opportunities for collaboration and partnership.
Requirements:
  • Master's degree or equivalent in Indigenous Studies, Counselling, Social Work, Political Science, History, English, or related disciplines.
  • Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in Indigenous education, leadership, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of Indigenous cultures, histories, and experiences, as well as a deep understanding of the national and international discourse on decolonization among Indigenous Studies scholars.
  • Commitment to academic leadership in Indigenous Studies, aligned with the recommendations of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and addressing colonialism and decolonization strategies in the College.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills, with the ability to work effectively with Indigenous communities, Elders, and Knowledge Keepers.
