Position Overview

Saint Mary's University is seeking a dedicated professional for the role of Communications Manager, Media Relations and Issues Management. This position plays a crucial role in shaping the university's public image and managing communications strategies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership and direction in media relations and communications initiatives.
  • Act as the primary contact for media inquiries, ensuring appropriate responses are directed to relevant departments and experts.
  • Enhance the university's reputation by identifying and promoting positive narratives about faculty, staff, and student achievements.
  • Develop and implement public relations campaigns in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Oversee daily media relations operations, ensuring timely and effective communication under tight deadlines.
  • Establish and maintain a structured communication process for managing issues that arise.
  • Participate in various communications committees focused on advancing the university's strategic objectives.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, or a related field.
  • A minimum of seven years of relevant experience in media relations or communications.
  • Proven experience in leadership roles, including directing teams and managing projects.
  • Strong research, organizational, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion.
  • Exceptional multitasking abilities and a strong commitment to meeting deadlines.
  • Excellent proofreading and communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with web editing and social media platforms is advantageous.
