The Role
We are seeking a motivated individual to fill the full-time, permanent position of Maintenance Technician Apprentice - Industrial Mechanic (Millwright). In this role, the Maintenance Apprentice Technician will be responsible for acquiring their Journeyperson certification while assisting MPR Maintenance with the installation, troubleshooting, and repair of mill equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Mission Zero journey and ensure compliance with Mercer Vision and Values.
- Assist with the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of Mill equipment.
- Perform safe and efficient maintenance of all industrial machinery and equipment in accordance with established procedures.
- Enter work requests in a timely fashion with detailed information.
- Provide information to support the Maintenance Planners to plan and estimate work so it can be executed in an efficient and cost-effective manner.
- Support and adhere to key processes such as the Management of Change (MOC), Problem-Solving Design Making (PSDM), Risk Assessment Matrix (RAM) and Integrity Management System (IMS).
- Active participation in incident investigations and the adherence of corrective actions to developing permanent solutions.
- Review and apply continuous improvement to safe work practices, procedures, and standards to ensure safe and reliable work execution.
Qualifications and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Mechanical Technologist Diploma will be considered an asset.
- Previous participation in the RAP program within MPR will be considered an asset.
- Strong technical abilities and problem-solving skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to read and interpret equipment specifications, engineering drawings, blueprints, charts, and tables as required.
- Experience with Microsoft Office and a computerized maintenance management system, specifically Avantis is considered an asset.
- Pulp mill and industrial maintenance experience preferred.
- Mechanical aptitude with strong troubleshooting skills.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to work in a physically demanding environment.
- Proven safety-conscious individual.
- Strong understanding of maintenance and operations.
