Position Overview. Mercer Peace River is thrilled to announce an opportunity for a driven individual to take on the full-time, permanent role of Maintenance Technician Apprentice – Industrial Mechanic (Millwright). In this capacity, the Maintenance Apprentice Technician will focus on obtaining their Journeyperson certification while assisting the MPR Maintenance team with the installation, troubleshooting, and repair of mill machinery.

Key Responsibilities

Support the ongoing Mission Zero initiative, adhering to all expectations associated with this role. Ensure alignment with Mercer’s Vision and Values. Assist in the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of mill machinery. Help maintain equipment integrity and execute safe and efficient maintenance of all industrial machinery and equipment in accordance with established protocols. Communicate daily regarding mechanical maintenance tasks and activities. Submit work requests promptly with comprehensive details. Provide insights to assist Maintenance Planners in planning and estimating work for efficient and cost-effective execution, minimizing operational impact and unnecessary expenses. Support and comply with essential processes such as Management of Change (MOC), Problem-Solving Decision Making (PSDM), Risk Assessment Matrix (RAM), and Integrity Management System (IMS). Actively participate in incident investigations and ensure adherence to corrective actions for developing permanent solutions, completing assigned tasks within acceptable timeframes. Review and implement continuous improvements to safe work practices, procedures, and standards to guarantee safe and reliable work execution.

Required Qualifications and Experience

High school diploma or equivalent. A Mechanical Technologist Diploma is considered an asset. Previous involvement in the RAP program within MPR is a plus. Strong technical skills and problem-solving capabilities. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to read and interpret equipment specifications, engineering drawings, blueprints, charts, and tables as necessary. Familiarity with Microsoft Office and a computerized maintenance management system, particularly Avantis, is advantageous. Preferred experience in pulp mill and industrial maintenance. Mechanical aptitude with robust troubleshooting skills. Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication abilities. Capability to work in a physically demanding environment. Proven commitment to safety practices. Solid understanding of maintenance and operational procedures.

We value work-life balance, offering a schedule of four 10-hour days per week (Monday to Thursday) from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., allowing for a 3-day weekend every week. Compensation is based on experience, qualifications, and competencies, with a starting hourly rate range of $32.39-$56.04, plus a 5% Average Regular Premium (ARP). Additionally, you will start with three weeks (120 hours) of annual vacation, prorated based on your start date.
