Job Summary

We are seeking a qualified Cook to join our dynamic Food and Nutrition Department team at Southbridge Care Homes. As a Cook, you will play a vital role in ensuring our residents receive nutritious and delicious meals, prepared and served with love.

Key Responsibilities

• Review and implement regular and therapeutic menus, setting up equipment and supplies for food preparation.
• Prepare food and nourishments, including evening meals, following standardized recipes and production sheets, while ensuring meals are served on time and at appropriate temperatures.
• Monitor quality and quantity of food supplies, proper operation of kitchen equipment, and alert the Manager of any problems, recommending corrective action as needed.
• Maintain all required records, such as menu changes, delivery receipts, and temperature checks, and cooperate with other departments to meet resident needs.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you must meet one of the following qualification scenarios:
• Hold a Chef training or culinary management certificate/diploma from a program meeting the requirements of the Ontario Long Term Care Act;
• Possess a Certificate of qualification as a Cook issued by an authority meeting the requirements of the Ontario Long Term Care Act;
• Hold a post-secondary diploma in food and nutrition management or a post-secondary degree in food and nutrition.

Additional qualifications include:
• Red Seal certification preferred;
• Experience in institutional large quantity cooking preferred;
• Ability to work safely, following established safety practices and procedures;
• Ability to read and write English, and understand moderately complex verbal and written instructions in English;
• Proven ability to provide direction and lead others within a busy environment.
