Senior Vice President of Clinical Rehabilitation & Transitions

Since 2017, Unity Health Toronto has embarked on a transformative journey to establish a fully integrated health system that encompasses three leading hospitals throughout Toronto. This integration aims to prioritize best practices in healthcare and enhance patient experiences while contributing to the evolution of integrated health systems. In 2022, Unity Health Toronto successfully implemented its clinical integration strategy, aligning clinical program leadership and strategy along specialty pathways across the network. This initiative has led to improved planning, collaboration, staff development, and the advancement of clinical practices for the benefit of the entire network and its patients.

Reporting to the Executive Vice President of Clinical Programs, the Senior Vice President will be an integral member of the executive team, responsible for shaping and executing the strategic direction of the network. This role entails overseeing clinical quality, operational efficiency, financial stability, and the overall effectiveness of clinical programs across Unity Health Toronto. The Senior Vice President will manage a diverse portfolio of clinical programs, primarily focusing on the Providence Healthcare site, which includes a 245-bed rehabilitation and complex care hospital, a 288-bed long-term care facility, and community support services for cognitively impaired adults.

The Senior Vice President will play a pivotal role in nurturing Unity Health Toronto's values-driven culture by exemplifying principled leadership, embedding patient-centered care, and ensuring alignment of service delivery with the network's mission, vision, values, and strategic objectives. This position requires an authentic leader with exceptional relationship management skills to collaborate with stakeholders across the network and develop high-performing teams. The Senior Vice President will be instrumental in achieving the goal of delivering the best possible patient experiences while working closely with community partners to enhance service integration.

The ideal candidate will be an optimistic and enthusiastic leader with a deep understanding of the complexities and stakeholder dynamics within long-term care, rehabilitation, community services, and academic health centers that integrate patient care with education and research. A progressive background in clinical program leadership within a complex healthcare environment, along with a post-graduate degree in nursing or a related healthcare discipline, health policy, or business administration, is essential. Demonstrated success in co-design, coaching, and mentoring methodologies is also required.

Key Responsibilities

The Senior Vice President of Clinical Rehabilitation & Transitions will be a seasoned healthcare leader committed to Unity Health Toronto's mission and values. The successful candidate will possess exceptional interpersonal and operational skills, with extensive experience in inspiring teams and driving innovation and excellence in clinical and operational practices.

Strategic Leadership

Contribute to the development and execution of Unity Health Toronto's strategic and operational plans as a member of the executive leadership team. Lead the growth, management, and performance of assigned clinical programs. Champion patient care quality and safety initiatives in collaboration with medical and operational leaders. Foster external partnerships to enhance Unity Health Toronto's impact and reputation in system-wide service planning and delivery.

Clinical Program Oversight

Provide executive leadership for Pharmacy, Seniors Health, Ambulatory Care, Rehabilitation, Complex Continuing Care, and Palliative Care programs. Collaborate with medical affairs leadership to drive clinical excellence across programs. Ensure alignment of network plans and initiatives within accountable programs. Foster a culture of clinical excellence, quality improvement, and patient-centered care. Promote innovation and accountability within program management teams. Identify and realize improvement opportunities across sites. Support the continuous development of direct reports through leadership and performance management. Collaborate with the Executive Committee to prioritize resource allocation and future site development. Identify site-specific risks and develop effective mitigation plans. Engage with clinical and administrative leaders to enhance staff wellness and engagement. Chair leadership committees to ensure alignment and collaboration among leaders.

Qualifications:

A post-graduate degree in nursing or a related healthcare discipline, health policy, or business administration. Progressive leadership experience in hospital clinical programs, long-term care, rehabilitation, and complex care. Comprehensive understanding of community and academic health centers. Strong analytical skills to address complex strategic and operational challenges. Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities. Proven ability to manage change in a complex environment. In-depth knowledge of the Ontario health reform agenda and healthcare continuum.
