Curriculum Developer for Human Service Practice

Thompson Rivers University, Open Learning (TRU-OL) is seeking a qualified Content Expert/Curriculum Developer to contribute to a significant revision of HUMS 2221: Theoretical Foundations in Human Service Practice.

This course introduces students to various theories used in human service practice. By examining diverse theoretical frameworks relevant to professional practice, the link between theory and application is established. Participants integrate these theories into their practice framework and explore the suitability of different theories when working with individuals, families, groups, and communities.

Course Development Process

The successful candidate will collaborate closely with an Instructional Designer and a dedicated course development team to:

  • Participate actively in brainstorming and planning sessions to shape the course content and learning objectives.
  • Develop a comprehensive course plan that outlines relevant learning outcomes, engaging learning activities, and effective assessments tailored for an online continuous entry course.
  • Revise and create compelling content, including interactive learning activities and authentic assessments, ensuring they are highly relevant and appropriate for the online learning environment.
  • Design multimedia or other innovative active learning experiences to foster student engagement through experiential learning.
  • Select suitable and accessible resources, prioritizing low-cost options such as Open Educational Resources (OERs), TRU's e-Library collection, article databases, and other readily available materials.
  • Ensure accurate citation of sources and identify any third-party material requiring permission, adhering to copyright guidelines.

  • Experience with online learning platforms is an asset.
