As a Medication Support Specialist at Owen Hill Community, you will play a vital role in providing personalized care and healthcare assistance to individuals who need help managing their medication. Your responsibilities will include:

1. Medication Management:

  • Administer prescribed medications to clients in accordance with their specific care plans and under the supervision of healthcare professionals.
  • Ensure precise dosage and timing of medications, strictly following prescribed schedules.
  • Employ appropriate techniques for medication delivery, including oral, topical, inhalation, and other specified methods as required.
  • Confirm medication orders and labels to avoid errors and guarantee that each client receives the correct medication.

2. Observation and Record-Keeping:

  • Observe clients for any adverse reactions or side effects after medication administration.
  • Maintain accurate records of medication administration, including dosage, timing, route, and any noted reactions or changes in the client's condition.
  • Communicate any concerns or observations regarding medication effectiveness, side effects, or discrepancies to the relevant healthcare professionals.

3. Client Assistance and Support:

  • Provide compassionate and respectful support to clients with daily living activities, including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and mobility.
  • Offer emotional support and companionship, creating a nurturing and supportive atmosphere for clients.
  • Engage clients in activities that encourage mental stimulation, social interaction, and overall well-being.

4. Communication and Teamwork:

  • Maintain clear and open lines of communication with clients, their families, and healthcare team members regarding medication-related issues and any changes in the client's condition.
  • Collaborate effectively with nurses, doctors, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated care and optimal outcomes for clients.
  • Advocate for clients' needs and preferences concerning their medication regimen while promoting adherence to prescribed treatments.

5. Safety and Regulatory Compliance:

  • Follow safety protocols and infection control measures to prevent the spread of illness and ensure a secure environment for clients and staff.
  • Adhere to established procedures for medication storage, handling, and disposal, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and guidelines.
  • Participate in ongoing training and education to remain informed about best practices, regulations, and advancements in medication administration and client care.
