HR Operations Specialist

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary resource for our Operations personnel, offering expert advice on all human resources matters.
  • Assist with labor relations, including participation in joint labor management discussions, interpretation and application of collective agreements, grievance handling, and progressive discipline processes.
  • Actively seek out opportunities to enhance the employee experience, fostering engagement and implementing innovative, sustainable solutions.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to conduct workplace investigations and resolve issues effectively.
  • Work alongside the Health & Safety team to cultivate a safety-oriented culture and support testing measures (e.g., breathalyzer, urinalysis).
  • Manage employee records using the human capital management system, providing necessary support to staff and supervisors.
  • Oversee the attendance management program and maintain communication with managers and employees.
  • Conduct new hire orientations and onboarding processes for both salaried and hourly staff.
  • Participate in weekly HR team meetings (both local and corporate) as well as operational meetings.
  • Engage in HR projects and initiatives, including quarterly HR reporting aligned with organizational objectives.
  • Handle full-cycle recruitment for hourly positions as required.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Technical Qualifications

  • At least 3 years of progressive HR experience in a generalist capacity with diverse responsibilities across various HR functions.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent post-secondary qualification in Human Resources or Industrial Relations.
  • CPHR designation is considered an asset.

Business Qualifications

  • Experience in a unionized labor environment with a solid understanding of collective agreements, their interpretation, and application.
  • Background in construction and/or manufacturing is advantageous.
  • Proficient in technology, particularly strong Excel skills.
  • Proven ability to manage priorities flexibly in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to travel as necessary for office and offsite events.
