As a Taxation Specialist, you play a vital role in the success of the Scotiatrust Taxation Services unit in Canada. Your contributions will ensure that specific individual objectives, plans, and initiatives are executed effectively in alignment with the team's business strategies and goals. You will also ensure that all activities comply with relevant regulations, internal policies, and procedures.

In this position, your responsibilities will include:

  • Promoting a customer-centric culture to enhance client relationships and leverage broader banking relationships, systems, and knowledge.
  • Actively engaging with clients and partners to provide comprehensive personal, estate, and trust tax preparation services to an assigned group of clients while adhering to regulatory deadlines, defined policies, procedures, service level agreements, and audit standards.
  • Delivering tax solutions and strategies to clients and partners by proactively identifying tax issues that may impact the client's situation and ensuring that clients and partners are informed as necessary.
  • Serving as the primary contact for all clients, partners, and new business prospects.
  • Overseeing, monitoring, and reviewing all tax returns prepared by Associate Tax Officers, Tax Administrators, and seasonal staff to ensure accuracy and completeness while minimizing risk.
  • Providing ongoing guidance, motivation, and technical coaching to Associate Tax Officers, Tax Administrators, and seasonal staff.
  • Offering constructive performance feedback for Associate Tax Officers, Tax Administrators, and seasonal staff.
  • Executing key tax preparation functions by preparing the most complex tax returns.
  • Understanding how the Bank's risk appetite and culture should influence daily activities and decisions.
  • Actively pursuing effective and efficient operations within your respective areas while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to, and effectiveness of daily business controls to meet obligations regarding operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk, and conduct risk.
  • Fostering a high-performance environment and contributing to an inclusive workplace.

Do you possess the skills and qualifications that will enable you to excel in this role? We would be eager to collaborate with you if you have:

  • Bi-lingualism – English/French preferred, especially for candidates from the Ottawa or Montreal regions.
  • Previous experience in a tax unit serving individuals, trusts, and corporations.
  • A post-secondary degree or diploma.
  • Progress towards an accounting designation.
  • Completion of the STEP or CSI Taxation Courses and a commitment to staying updated on legislative changes, particularly regarding the taxation of individuals, estates, trusts, corporations, and registered charities.
  • Strong computer skills, particularly in tax preparation software and MS Office, SalesForce, and the Broadridge Trust System.

Additional Information

  • Prior experience in a tax unit serving individuals, trusts, and corporations.
  • A post-secondary degree or diploma.
