Position Overview

As a Residential Risk Assessment Specialist, your primary responsibility will be to evaluate residential properties for compliance and identify potential hazards or structural issues. You will conduct assessments on behalf of insurance firms and offer recommendations aimed at minimizing the frequency and impact of losses related to fire, theft, and liability.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Coordinate appointments with clients to conduct visual assessments of properties (approximately 10% of your time).
  2. Travel to various locations to inspect and evaluate risk factors (around 50% of your time).
  3. During property tours, capture photographs, measure rooms and structures, and review critical features such as fire safety systems, heating units, and fuel storage.
  4. Examine building construction, electrical systems, heating installations, and plumbing to ensure adherence to codes and proper installation.
  5. Identify and document structural flaws, fire risks, and other safety concerns.
  6. Engage with property owners to gather historical information, discuss risks, and address any inquiries they may have.
  7. Compile comprehensive reports using internal systems that detail construction specifics, risk evaluations, and estimated replacement costs (approximately 40% of your time).
Accountabilities to the Regional Manager
  1. Ensure reports are free from errors and omissions, providing precise assessment details.
  2. Contribute positively to the overall revenue objectives of the team.
  3. Continuously enhance your expertise to handle more complex property assessments.
Accountabilities to Property Owners
  1. Exhibit professionalism and tact to ensure a positive experience for clients.
  2. Deliver value-added services within your area of expertise consistently.
Qualifications
  1. A background in insurance, construction, home inspections, real estate appraisals, or engineering is essential for recognizing and identifying construction details (a college diploma or bachelor's degree is preferred).
  2. Experience with building codes, residential construction, building restoration, or home inspection is required.
  3. Familiarity with sketching software such as Rapid Sketch and Apex is advantageous.
  4. Prior experience as an underwriting assessor or in the insurance sector is preferred.
  5. Strong computer skills, including database management, typing proficiency, and word processing, are essential for efficient report creation.
  6. Bilingual proficiency in English and French is mandatory.
