As a Residential Risk Assessment Specialist at Verisk, your primary responsibility is to evaluate residential properties to ensure compliance and identify potential hazards or structural issues. You will conduct thorough assessments on behalf of insurance providers and offer strategic recommendations aimed at minimizing the likelihood and impact of losses related to fire, theft, and liability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Arrange meetings with clients to conduct visual assessments of properties (approximately 10% of your time)
  • Travel to various locations to inspect and evaluate risk factors (about 50% of your time)
  • During property tours, capture photographs, measure spaces, and examine features such as fire safety systems, heating units, and fuel storage
  • Evaluate the construction quality, electrical systems, heating setups, and plumbing to confirm adherence to codes and standards.
  • Identify and document structural issues, fire risks, and other safety concerns.
  • Engage with property owners to gather insights about the property's history, potential risks, and address any inquiries they may have.
  • Compile comprehensive reports utilizing internal systems that detail construction specifics, risk evaluations, and estimated replacement costs (around 40% of your time)

  • Ensure reports are accurate, free of errors, and reflect the true assessment findings
  • Support the team in achieving overall revenue objectives
  • Continuously enhance your knowledge to assess more intricate properties.

  • Maintain professionalism and tact to ensure positive experiences for clients
  • Consistently deliver value-added services within your area of expertise

Required Qualifications:

  • A background in insurance, construction, home inspections, real estate appraisal, or engineering is essential for recognizing and identifying construction details (College diploma or bachelor's degree preferred)
  • Proven experience with building codes, residential construction, property restoration, or as a home inspector is necessary.
  • Familiarity with sketching software such as Rapid Sketch and Apex is advantageous.
  • Experience in underwriting assessment or the insurance sector is preferred.
  • Strong computer skills, including database management, typing proficiency, and word processing, are crucial for efficient report generation.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and French is required.
