As a Residential Risk Assessment Specialist, your primary role involves evaluating residential properties to ensure compliance and identify potential hazards or structural issues. You will conduct assessments on behalf of insurance firms and offer recommendations aimed at minimizing the risks associated with fire, theft, and liability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Arrange meetings with clients to conduct visual inspections of properties at mutually agreed times (approximately 10% of your time).
- Travel to various locations to perform comprehensive risk assessments (about 50% of your time).
- During property evaluations, capture photographs, measure spaces, and inspect critical safety features such as fire prevention systems and heating units.
- Evaluate the construction quality, electrical systems, heating arrangements, and plumbing to confirm adherence to regulations and standards.
- Identify and document structural issues, fire risks, and other safety concerns.
- Engage with property owners to gather insights about the property's history and any existing risks, while addressing their inquiries.
- Compile thorough reports using internal systems that detail construction specifics, risk evaluations, and estimated replacement costs (around 40% of your time).

- Ensure reports are free from errors and accurately reflect assessment findings.
- Support the team's revenue objectives through your contributions.
- Continuously enhance your expertise to handle more complex property evaluations.

Qualifications:
- A background in insurance, construction, home inspections, real estate appraisals, or engineering is beneficial for recognizing construction details (a college diploma or bachelor's degree is preferred).
- Prior experience with building codes, residential construction, or home inspections is required.
- Familiarity with sketching software such as Rapid Sketch and Apex is advantageous.
- Experience in underwriting assessment or the insurance sector is preferred.
- Proficient computer skills, including database management, typing speed and accuracy, and word processing, are essential for effective report creation.
- Bilingual proficiency in English and French is required.
