About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Advisor to join our team in the Nuclear Supply Branch. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in developing and implementing provincial policies and strategies related to nuclear energy generation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide expert advice and guidance on economic, regulatory, environmental, and social considerations of nuclear energy supply in Ontario;
  • Assess the impact of initiatives and analyze and develop policy options and strategies concerning nuclear energy in Ontario;
  • Provide policy recommendations based on research and analyses of complex technical, regulatory, and economic aspects of nuclear energy;
  • Present recommendations to senior management and suggest strategies with policy or regulatory alternatives;
  • Consult with critical stakeholders and partners to support the development and implementation of nuclear energy policies and strategies;
  • Lead research and studies related to nuclear energy and manage research contracts.
RequirementsTechnical Knowledge and Experience:
  • You have knowledge of theories, principles, and techniques of public policy, economics, finance, and regulatory principles to lead studies, research, analyses, and development of policy options and strategies related to nuclear energy;
  • You have a strong understanding of the diverse economic, regulatory, environmental, and social challenges in the energy and/or the nuclear sector to manage the ministry's role in oversight of nuclear projects and provide advice to support provincial decision-making on nuclear energy.
Communication, Interpersonal, and Negotiation Skills:
  • You can consult with internal and external stakeholders acting as a primary liaison for the ministry to coordinate and enhance policy development;
  • You can serve as a technical advisor to project teams and participate in committees, task forces, and discussion groups;
  • You can prepare and present briefings and policy implications of recommendations to senior executives;
  • You are proficient in software applications such as Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and the Internet and Intranet.
Planning, Strategic Thinking, and Problem-Solving Skills:
  • You can identify and address contentious issues and questions requiring pre-emptive action;
  • You can suggest strategies for policy or regulatory alternatives.
Analytical, Evaluative, and Research Skills:
  • You can assess the impact of initiatives and analyze and develop policy options related to nuclear energy, taking into consideration economic, regulatory, environmental, and social impact;
  • You can research and interpret a variety of legislation and regulations related to the energy sector to formulate advice;
  • You can provide policy recommendations based on research and analyses of complex technical, regulatory, and economic aspects of nuclear energy.
Project Management and Leadership Skills:
  • You can lead the development of new policies and strategies;
  • You can lead research and studies related to nuclear energy and define terms of reference for experts' studies;
  • You can assist with developing project objectives, goals, human resources, and financial requirements for projects.
