About the Role:
This is a regular part-time support staff position within the Centre of Access Programs at Lambton College. The successful candidate will work 24 hours per week at an hourly rate of $26.46. The position is less than 12 months in duration, with a permanent role working 8 months of the year, typically from the last week of August to the last week of April.
Key Responsibilities:
The Learning Specialist will assist students to maximize their learning potential by advocating, intervening, and acting on their behalf with faculty, other students, and College-wide services. The incumbent will be responsible for modifying course outlines, tests, and assignments in collaboration with faculty.
Specific Accountabilities:
- Modify course materials, tests, and assignments in collaboration with faculty
- Develop and recommend policies and procedures for the administration of the work unit
- Provide data to decision-makers to inform best course of action
- Respond to the needs of service users by coordinating all details of learning initiatives
- Other responsibilities as required
Qualifications:
- Two-year diploma in Educational Assistant, Developmental Service Worker, Child and Youth Worker, or Social Service Worker, or 2-3 years of experience in carpentry or welding
- 1-3 years of experience working with persons with developmental disabilities, significant learning challenges, and in teaching/tutoring environments
- Mental health training is an asset
- Knowledge and experience utilizing educational/learning strategies; Microsoft Teams and D2L experience required
- Possess advocacy skills and a willingness to participate in marketing events
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills with a high degree of professionalism, diplomacy, and patience
- Computer fluency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams)
- Ability to work independently and make decisions with a high level of initiative
- Excellent organizational and creative problem-solving skills
