About the Role:
This is a regular part-time support staff position within the Centre of Access Programs at Lambton College. The successful candidate will work 24 hours per week at an hourly rate of $26.46. The position is less than 12 months in duration, with a permanent role working 8 months of the year, typically from late August to late April.
Key Responsibilities:
The Learning Specialist will assist students to maximize their learning potential by advocating, intervening, and acting on their behalf with faculty, other students, and College-wide services. This includes modifying course materials, tests, and assignments in collaboration with faculty, as well as developing and recommending policies and procedures for the administration of the work unit.
Qualifications and Requirements:
The ideal candidate will possess a two-year Educational Assistant diploma, Developmental Service Worker diploma, Child and Youth Worker diploma, or Social Service Worker Diploma, or 2-3 years of experience in carpentry or welding. Additionally, they will have 1-3 years of experience working with persons with developmental disabilities, significant learning challenges, and in teaching/tutoring environments. Mental health training is an asset, and the candidate should be knowledgeable and experienced in utilizing educational/learning strategies, Microsoft Teams, and D2L. Excellent interpersonal communication skills, advocacy skills, and a willingness to participate in marketing events are also essential.
Working Conditions:
The Learning Specialist will work independently and as part of a team, requiring excellent organizational and creative problem-solving skills. They will be responsible for making decisions and demonstrating a high level of initiative. The successful candidate will be an effective team player with excellent computer fluency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams).
