Position Overview

The Security Services team at the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority is dedicated to fostering a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors. This facility is designed to provide specialized mental health treatment and rehabilitation services to individuals with complex needs.

As a part of a comprehensive care model, the security officer plays a crucial role in maintaining safety and security across various specialized programs, including Acute, Geriatric, Rehabilitation, Forensic, and Acquired Brain Injury services.

This position requires a proactive approach to security, with responsibilities that include ensuring the safety of approximately 700 staff members and 252 patients, as well as their families and visitors. The security officer will work collaboratively with healthcare professionals and management to support patient recovery and reintegration into the community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide a secure environment for all individuals within the facility.
  • Engage with patients, staff, and visitors to promote a culture of safety.
  • Respond to emergencies and assist in crisis situations.
  • Utilize security technology effectively, including CCTV and access control systems.
  • Work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, as required.
Experience
  • Previous experience in security roles is preferred.
  • Ability to manage challenging behaviors and situations.
  • Experience in healthcare settings is an asset.
Education and Certification
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Completion of a recognized Security Officer Training program or relevant experience in law enforcement or military service.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license and Manitoba Security Guard License are mandatory.
  • Clear Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Search are required.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Capacity to handle stressful situations with composure.
  • Knowledge of mental health issues is desirable.
Physical Requirements
  • Position involves significant walking and the ability to manage physical interventions when necessary.
