Position Overview:

The Equipment Operator II for Waste Process is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of various machinery used in landfill and composting activities. This role encompasses the maintenance and construction of waste management infrastructure under municipal oversight. The operator will utilize a diverse range of equipment, including but not limited to bulldozers, compactors, excavators, and various trucks, to perform essential tasks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct maintenance on waste management roadways throughout the year, including tasks such as grass cutting and dust control.
  • Efficiently manage the placement and compaction of municipal solid waste, ensuring adherence to design specifications.
  • Interpret topographical maps and utilize technology for landfill design and construction.
  • Employ advanced equipment such as laser levels and GPS for precise operations.
  • Provide exceptional customer service by addressing inquiries and requests professionally.
  • Handle the loading and unloading of recyclable materials produced at the facility.
  • Perform various support activities to enhance equipment operations.
  • Ensure compliance with provincial and federal regulations regarding waste management.
  • Oversee the operation and maintenance of leachate and sewage pumping systems.
  • Maintain detailed logs of equipment conditions and perform minor servicing as needed.
  • Complete necessary inspections and safety reports regularly.
  • Conduct hazard assessments and report incidents as required.
  • Monitor and report any violations of waste management regulations.
  • Participate in training programs and respond to emergency situations as outlined in protocols.
  • Support various Solid Waste programs and operations as necessary.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is mandatory.
  • A minimum of two years of experience operating heavy machinery, specifically bulldozers and excavators.
  • Experience with waste management equipment is advantageous.
  • Certification in Landfill Operations and Composting is required within a specified timeframe post-hire.
  • Possession of a valid Class 3 Operator's License is essential.
