Position Overview:

The Equipment Operator II for Waste Process is responsible for the safe and proficient operation and upkeep of various machinery utilized in landfill and composting activities. This role also encompasses year-round maintenance and development of waste management pathways and facilities governed by municipal regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the maintenance of the waste management roadway system throughout all seasons, executing related tasks such as grass cutting, dust control, and road construction.
  • Accurately place and compact municipal solid waste in accordance with design specifications, assisting in the training of other personnel as necessary.
  • Interpret topographical survey maps and utilize software related to landfill cell design and construction.
  • Employ advanced technology such as laser levels and GPS for precise equipment operation.
  • Deliver excellent customer service by addressing inquiries and requests in a professional manner.
  • Handle the loading and unloading of recyclable products produced at the facility.
  • Conduct flagging and material preparation to support equipment operations.
  • Comply with provincial and federal regulations regarding landfill and composting operations.
  • Manage leachate and sewage pumping systems, as well as stormwater ponds.
  • Maintain detailed logs of equipment condition, perform minor servicing, and report any maintenance issues.
  • Complete necessary inspections and safety reports as part of daily operations.
  • Conduct Field Level Hazard Assessments and incident reports as required.
  • Monitor and report any violations of waste management regulations by public and commercial haulers.
  • Participate in training programs related to equipment operation.
  • Respond to emergencies in accordance with established response plans.
  • Support Solid Waste programs and operations as needed.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is mandatory.
  • A minimum of two years of experience operating bulldozers and excavators, with at least six months on each type of equipment.
  • Experience with waste management equipment such as compactors and loaders is advantageous.
  • Completion of a Basic Landfill Operator Certificate and Alberta Composting Certificate within 18 months of hire is required.
  • Heavy equipment certification is preferred.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must provide a Criminal Record Check.
  • A valid Class Three Operator's License is essential.
  • Q-Endorsement (Air Brakes) is necessary.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions is required.
  • Immunizations are recommended for work in unsanitary environments.
  • Must be physically capable of performing all job duties consistently.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays.
