Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Classroom Assistant to join our team at the York Region District School Board. The successful candidate will provide support to students in a classroom setting, promoting positive attitudes and encouraging enthusiasm for language learning.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support students during classroom activities through a variety of instructional strategies that best meet students' needs
- Promote positive attitudes and encourage enthusiasm for language learning
- Provide each student with appropriate and positive feedback that builds confidence and strength
- Develop and maintain an equitable and inclusive learning environment
- Communicate with the classroom instructor about students' progress and concerns
- Ensure the safety of students both inside and outside the classroom for the duration of the program
- Establish safe dismissal procedures in consultation with the classroom instructor
- Assist students, volunteers, and instructors to restore the room to its original state at the end of the class
- Ensure that students do not touch the belongings of day school students, teachers, and classrooms
- Complete other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- Candidate selection will be based on the results of an interview, experience, and assets/qualifications and reference checks
- Preference will be given to candidates who have some of the following assets and/or experiences:
- Fluency in various languages
- Some teaching experience (preferably language teaching)
- Experience working with children
- Related education (degree or diploma, etc.)
