The Role

The Manufacturing Process Engineer will collaborate closely with production teams to implement lean manufacturing principles. You will evaluate throughput data to assist departments in enhancing performance. Your role will be crucial in designing and planning standardized work for upcoming products alongside the core team, launching exceptional products. In a stable environment, you will lead continuous improvement initiatives. The ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced manufacturing setting is essential for your success at General Motors.

Key Responsibilities

  • The primary objective of the Manufacturing Process Engineer is to eliminate waste related to time, finances, materials, labor hours, machine usage, energy, and other resources that do not add value.
  • This position will develop, propose, and implement modifications that will enhance manufacturing processes and/or product quality.
  • The role will oversee daily work assignments for core team members.
  • Promote safe working practices and establish objectives for ergonomics, health, safety, and cleanliness.
  • Conduct ergonomic assessments of all operations utilizing the Assembly Processing System (APS) Ergonomic Assessment Tool.
  • Support line balancing activities for current models, new models, and engineering modifications.
  • Identify and eliminate waste.
  • Lead continuous improvement workshops to achieve annual productivity goals.
  • Collaborate with Group Leaders and Team Leaders to formulate and execute the change plan.
  • Initiate and support work orders, Production Trial Runs (PTRs), and the Change Control Process.
  • Coordinate Job Element Sheet (JES) modifications to Standard Operating Sheet (SOS).
  • Facilitate trials for Standardized Work Changes.
  • Complete operation validations (cycle or full validation).
  • Cycle Validation - Verify elements, options, Standard Time Data System (STDS), Master Process Documents (MPD), and Key Characteristic Designation System (KCDS) requirements.
  • Full Validation - Cycle Validation plus ergonomics, layout, material routing, tooling, specifications, scroll, and man-machine chart.
  • Maintain documentation current within APS, STDS, and ensure JES's comply with Built-in Quality (BIQ) Standards.
  • Provide STDS documentation within APS for Mandatory Sequence and Key Product Characteristics (KPC's).
  • Support Through-put Improvement (TIP) activities to eliminate bottlenecks.
  • Generate throughput analysis reports.
  • Analyze throughput improvement proposals.
  • Monitor actual versus design intent for capacity and throughput.
  • Support and train the Global Manufacturing System and uphold the standards identified to achieve and maintain the site's BIQ status.
  • Instruct and train on the APS software (GM's Job Instruction Database) as needed.
  • Teach Cyclic and Non-Cyclic Standardized Work.
  • Support Continuous Improvement initiatives and conduct Waste Elimination workshops.
