Job Summary:

The Fitness Instructor is responsible for leading fitness classes to clients under the direction of the Program coordinator and/or Physiotherapist (PT) associated with the program and in line with the certification standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leads fitness classes to promote physical activity and well-being among clients.
  • Works with clients to set and achieve fitness goals, providing guidance and support as needed.
  • Participates in ongoing review and evaluation of service delivery to ensure high-quality programming.
  • Attends educational in-services to stay current on best practices and certification standards.
  • May provide fall prevention education and other health promotion activities as directed by the Program coordinator and/or PT.
  • Reports any incidents or concerns to the Program coordinator and/or PT.
  • Ensures all incidents are reported in a timely manner in accordance with VON policies and procedures.
  • Reports any equipment defects or safety concerns to the Program coordinator and/or PT.

Education, Designations and Experience:

  • High school graduate.
  • CCAA Certification as a Seniors Fitness Instructor and/or equivalent is required at the time of hire or within 3 months from time of hire.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience teaching group fitness classes for older adults, including experience teaching specialized classes for chronic conditions.
  • Experience promoting health and well-being through physical activity.
  • Experience working in an assisted living environment is an asset.
  • Bilingual in French/English is an asset.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
