Fitness Instructor

Job Summary:

The Fitness Instructor is responsible for leading fitness classes to clients under the direction of the Program coordinator and/or Physiotherapist (PT) associated with the program and in line with the certification standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leads fitness classes for older adults with various health conditions.
  • Works with clients to achieve their fitness goals.
  • Participates in ongoing review and evaluation of service delivery.
  • Attends educational in-services to enhance skills and knowledge.
  • Provides fall prevention education as directed by Coordinator and/or regulated professionals.
  • Reports any incidents or concerns to PT/coordinator.
  • Ensures timely reporting of incidents in accordance with legislation and VON policies.
  • Reports equipment defects that may pose a risk to self or others.

Education, Designations and Experience:

  • High school graduate.
  • CCAA Certification as a Seniors Fitness Instructor or equivalent required at hire or within 3 months.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience teaching group fitness classes for older adults, including experience with specialized classes for chronic conditions.
  • Experience promoting health and well-being through physical activity.
  • Bilingual in French/English is an asset.

Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities:

  • Attention to detail.
  • Lift and carry using proper lifting techniques.
  • Bend, push, pull, grip, reach, kneel, crouch using good body mechanics.
  • Walk, sit, stand, climb stairs.
  • Hand movements.
