The Fitness Instructor is responsible for leading fitness classes to clients under the direction of the Program coordinator and/or Physiotherapist (PT) associated with the program and in line with the certification standards.
Key Responsibilities- Lead fitness classes for older adults with chronic conditions.
- Work with clients to achieve their fitness goals.
- Participate in ongoing review and evaluation of service delivery.
- Attend educational in-services and workshops.
- Provide fall prevention education as directed.
- Report any incidents or concerns to the PT or coordinator.
- Ensure timely reporting of incidents and defects.
- Comply with OHS legislation and VON policies.
- Frequent interaction with Coordinator, Physiotherapist, and clients.
- High school graduate.
- CCAA Certification as a Seniors Fitness Instructor is required.
- Minimum 2 years of experience teaching group fitness classes for older adults.
- Experience promoting health and well-being through physical activity.
- Experience working in an assisted living environment is an asset.
- Bilingual in French/English is an asset.
- Respect for privacy and confidentiality.
- Dependability and trustworthiness.
- Good communication and active listening skills.
- Ability to remain calm in unexpected situations.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
This role requires a detail-oriented approach in a dynamic environment, with physical activity including lifting, carrying, bending, reaching, kneeling, and other movements that emphasize good body mechanics.
