Durham College is currently seeking a qualified and enthusiastic professional who shares our dedication to excellence and student achievement. The School of Science, Engineering and Information Technology is looking for a part-time instructor to teach Building Information Modelling I: Drafting and Drawings.

Course Overview:

This course aims to equip students with the necessary tools to develop a model and document a project utilizing Revit Structure. It covers the techniques and standards essential for effective graphical communication. Students will enhance their ability to interpret and analyze architectural and construction plans, drawings, terminology, scales, symbols, and specifications used in various construction sectors, including residential, industrial, commercial, and institutional.

The curriculum encompasses the foundational principles of Revit Structure Technology and Building Information Modelling (BIM). Participants will gain hands-on experience in a computer lab, utilizing Revit Structure 2017. Key topics include the advantages of BIM, navigating the Revit interface, modeling tools, and building structural elements such as columns, beams, floors, foundations, and annotations.

Important Note for Part-Time Faculty Applicants:

Recruitment for part-time positions is ongoing and is contingent upon course scheduling and faculty needs. Part-time instructors typically teach up to 6 hours per week, with flexible schedules available from Monday to Thursday between 8:00 am and 9:00 pm, and Fridays from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm.

Responsibilities of Part-Time Professors at Durham College:

  1. Fostering a positive learning environment that respects students' diverse cultural and educational backgrounds, experiences, and individual learning styles;
  2. Employing adult education principles to actively engage students in the learning process;
  3. Effectively utilizing educational technologies to enhance learning, manage grades, and deliver hybrid and online courses;
  4. Developing curriculum that incorporates appropriate strategies and tools for assessing student learning;
  5. Ensuring that course and program content remains current and relevant;
  6. Demonstrating initiative and the ability to work independently;
  7. Collaborating effectively with students, program teams, and various internal and external stakeholders.

Required Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  1. A relevant degree complemented by industry credentials (a PhD is advantageous).
  2. A minimum of five years of recent and pertinent work experience.
  3. Experience teaching at the post-secondary level, with a solid understanding of Universal Design for Learning and contemporary assessment methodologies.
  4. Participation in industry-led or community-based applied research is considered an asset.
  5. Proficiency in utilizing current technologies to support student learning and grade management.
  6. A proven commitment to lifelong learning.
  7. Ability to work effectively with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders, including students, faculty, support staff, and community partners.
  8. A comprehensive understanding of the Ontario college system.
