Position Overview:

Durham College is in search of a qualified and passionate professional who shares our dedication to quality education and student achievement. The Faculty of Science, Engineering and Information Technology is looking for a part-time professor to instruct INST 1104 – Instrumental Analysis within the Water Quality program.

This course provides students with insights into process instrumentation and controls utilized in the water and wastewater sectors. Participants will learn about the operation of instruments that measure, control, and monitor essential plant process variables such as flow, level, and pressure, as well as analytical tools used to assess conditions like turbidity, chlorine residual, and pH levels.

The responsibilities of part-time professors at Durham College encompass, but are not limited to:

  1. Fostering a positive educational atmosphere that respects and accommodates the diverse cultural and educational backgrounds of students;
  2. Applying adult education principles to actively engage learners in the educational process;
  3. Effectively leveraging educational technologies to enhance learning, manage grading, and deliver hybrid and online courses;
  4. Designing curriculum that employs suitable strategies and tools for assessing student learning;
  5. Ensuring that course and program content remains current and relevant;
  6. Demonstrating initiative and the ability to work independently;
  7. Collaborating effectively with students, program teams, and various internal and external stakeholders.
Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  1. A relevant degree complemented by industry credentials (Master's degree is advantageous).
  2. Experience in wastewater operations is preferred.
  3. A minimum of five years of recent and relevant professional experience.
  4. Teaching experience at the post-secondary level, with a solid understanding of Universal Design for Learning and contemporary assessment methodologies.
  5. Experience in industry-led or community-based applied research is a plus.
  6. Proficiency in utilizing current technologies to support student learning and manage grading.
  7. A proven commitment to lifelong learning.
  8. Ability to work effectively with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders, including students, faculty, support staff, and community partners.
  9. Familiarity with the Ontario college system.
