Position Information:

The Faculty of Science, Engineering and Information Technology at Durham College is seeking a part-time professor to teach INST 1104 – Instrumental Analysis for the Water Quality program. This course introduces students to process instrumentation and controls used in the water and wastewater field, with a focus on the functionality of instruments used to measure, control, and monitor plant process variables.

The ideal candidate will have a relevant degree combined with industry credentials, experience in waste water operations, and a minimum of five years of recent and relevant work experience. Teaching experience at the post-secondary level is also essential, with a demonstrated understanding and application of Universal Design for Learning and current assessment methodologies.

Responsibilities:
  1. Creating a positive learning environment that accommodates students' diverse cultural and educational backgrounds, experiences, and individual learning styles;
  2. Utilizing principles of adult education to actively engage students in the learning process;
  3. Effectively using educational technologies to support learning, manage and post grades, and deliver hybrid and on-line courses;
  4. Developing curriculum that uses appropriate strategies and tools to assess student learning;
  5. Ensuring that course and program curriculum is current and relevant;
  6. Working independently and demonstrating initiative; and
  7. Working effectively with students, the program team, and a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
Requirements:
  1. A relevant degree combined with industry credentials;
  2. Experience in waste water operations;
  3. A minimum of five years of recent and relevant work experience;
  4. Teaching experience at the post-secondary level with a demonstrated understanding and application of Universal Design for Learning and current assessment methodologies;
  5. Experience participating in industry-led or community-based applied research;
  6. Demonstrated use of current technologies to support student learning and the management of grades;
  7. Proven track-record of life-long learning;
  8. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a variety of internal and external stakeholders;
  9. Understanding of the Ontario college system.
